Sauntering, Our travels around the country Maple Syrup Symposium (2007) |
November 17, 2005 Spent a good part of the day at Promontory, Utah. Heather and I were 2 of only 4 people that were visiting the Golden Spike National Historic Site. Our guide's name was John, and he was very informative. There were four privately commissioned commemorative spikes. Two of the spikes are at Stanford University, one is lost and we can't remember what happened to the fourth one. There was also a commemorative plank that the spikes were driven into; that was lost in the 1906 San Francisco fire. On the way to Promontory we drove by the Thiokol plant and took a self guided tour of the missile mockups that are on display.
