It happened to us, crazy but true.

Continued around Lake Superior and spent the evening at a quaint little inn call the Rossport Inn established in 1884. It was built for the railroad traffic. The proprietor is Sheila. The Inn closes in November and she goes to sunny Winnipeg for the winter. The Inn has several rooms that share two bathrooms and 9 cabins, each with its own bathroom and electric heat. They have their own restaurant that features fresh fish from the Lake caught by the Inn's own fisherman. Terry had Trout Hemmingway, a Rossport Inn specialty, and Heather had Whitefish Almandine. The dinners were delicious! At dinner we met a couple from Ottawa who travel around repairing microscopes at schools and universities. What no one, including the Fodor's guidebook, mentioned was that the train track 20 yards from our cabin is still an active one and apparently Canadian trains only run at night...at least two an hour. The engines, whistles, the trainwheels clickity-clacking over the tracks and the cabin trembling with each train really weren't too bad. What woke us up (an other guests) was our car alarm going off when a conductor blew his whistle right at our cabin. Five years ago today marks my Dads passing.
