It happened to us, crazy but
true.

After being thoroughly interviewed and searched by the Canadian border
patrol (a 45-minute process) we were finally allowed to enter
Canada...destination Winnipeg. Winnipeg is a lot larger than we were expecting.
It's located along the Assiniboine and Red Rivers so it has some nice river
walks. We took one along the Assiniboine to the government buildings. The
legislative room, however, was closed and unavailable for viewing. We headed
downtown to see the Commodities Exchange in action. That was closed too since
they began doing it all via computer over a year ago. We forgot to check
out the Royal Canadian Mint (it probably would have been closed anyway).

St. Boniface church burnt down in 1968. They kept the front and some of the
side walls and rebuilt a '70's looking church inside.

After experiencing the wonders of Winnipeg we jumped in the car and headed
north to Gimli, a town of 2500 on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg. In the
late 1800's Canada gave a strip of land along the lake to Icelanders who were
fleeing harsh conditions in Iceland. They were so isolated they developed their
own government and proclaimed Gimli the capital of "New Iceland".
Interesting museum. Terry said he felt like he'd been at the top of the world
while we were there. The road to Gimli only goes a 100 miles more before
ending.

Believe it or not my favorite is the
photo on the bottom of the page.
This is the Canadian health system at work. Notice that she is smoking while
connected to the IV.
