Took a road trip to Stockholm, WI because a drawing on a brochure made it look quite quaint. With a population of 97 there wasn’t much to the town. However, it is along route 35 which is a national scenic byway that runs along the mighty Mississipp so it was a gorgeous drive. We went on a little ways to Pepin WI which turns out to be the birthplace of the author, Laura Ingalls Wilder. There are some pictures and artifacts in the visitor’s center and the Little House on the Prairie books at a gift shop next door. The lady on duty at the visitor’s center had some interesting stories and facts. The books have been translated into 40 languages. The Japanese are quite enthralled with the stories. One couple flew from Japan to Minneapolis, rented a limo, drove to the site of Wilder’s birth (the wayside), got married and then flew back home.
