Sauntering, Our travels around the country Maple Syrup Symposium (2007) Terry's cross country bicycle trip It happened to us, crazy but true. So how did I end up in Texas updated videos) |
May 16, 2006 The Salmon River races through the Salmon River Canyon in Idaho. Our drive followed this river for a couple of hours....stunning and relaxing all at the same time. Zipping along a deserted road in Eastern Oregon, our attention was caught by a Lewis and Clark (in eastern Oregon!!!) roadside sign indicating that Charbinneau's gravesite was down a side road. We braked and turned around and drove 4 miles to the grave. It was the grave of Jean-Baptiste Charbinneau (Sakakawea's son and the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark expedition). At the age of 61 he was on his way from California to Montana when he took ill and died.
